This section of the e-Lead website contains detailed descriptions of standards-based school-leadership-development programs from around the country. e-Lead recently re-designed and expanded the information we seek from our program partners in an effort to a) update the content at e-Lead and b) present our visitors with a more detailed, relevant and useful presentation of information -- now organized into 27 categories -- about the programs we describe here at e-Lead. As before the programs listed here at e-Lead describe both in-service and pre-service professional-development programs.
It is important to note, however, that the lines between pre-service and in-service -- as well as those between university-based and district-based programming -- are increasingly hard to draw. Some districts are taking the lead in partnering with universities in the design and delivery of leadership development tailored to district needs. Therefore, many programs in the database represent strong district-university partnerships.
Additionally all programs in this database meet a threshold criterion: their curricula are standards-based, i.e., driven by authoritative standards for what principals need to know and be able to do, and so programs featured here at e-Lead are offered as examples of these standards-based efforts. We do not propose that districts adopt these programs and practices "off the shelf". Rather, districts will likely gain the most benefit from e-Lead if they utilize these program descriptions to address their own environmental contexts and leadership challenges. These descriptions, like the rest of e-Lead, are intended to be a useful, idea- and discussion-generating resource for school districts in their leadership development planning.
