Assessing Program Quality

School leadership development programs should be designed according to six guiding principles, which include guidance for a program's overall framework, the focus of its content, and the ways in which it is delivered and evaluated.

To help you assess the quality of your program against these proven practices, to evaluate the quality of a program you are considering participating in or using in your district, to guide the design and development of a program, or simply to learn more about what constitutes high-quality school leadership development, we developed a self-assessment instrument to help.

The instrument is designed to address the following questions:

  1. Does the program develop the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities of educational leaders?
  2. Does the program incorporate effective staff and professional development principles and practices?
  3. Are program evaluations rigorously designed?
  4. Does the program demonstrate evidence of effects/impact?
