Illinois Technology and Leadership for Change (ITLC) | Illinois State University | (Originally supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation)
Activities: More Details
ITLC’s first activity (using Excel) introduces a simulated, but very real, question for our participants on student achievement. They spend time in several websites reviewing what kinds of data are available with respect to the student achievement questions posed. They then use Excel to manipulate simulation data (real school data) to determine how to answer the question posed. The Excel tools introduced are fairly sophisticated, but participants work together and master the tools and the concepts. They score the activity with very high marks on our evaluations. The activity provides sources of data, strategies for reviewing data, and skills for manipulation of data for further review all within the continuous improvement and systemic perspective focus.
