LEAD Fairfax | Fairfax County Public Schools, Fairfax, Va.
Program Goals
The LEAD Fairfax program focuses on three areas of impact:
1. Recruitment and Selection -- Use a rigorous cohort selection and placement process to attract and place a diverse pool of division leaders, building district leadership capacity and sustainability. As a result, there is a larger and more diverse pool of candidates for leadership positions. The program continues to evaluate the recruitment and selection process, making it more effective in fitting the district's needs.
2. Training and Development -- Develop aspiring and novice leaders as well as strengthen leadership among accomplished veterans (school-based and central office) while at the same time strengthen division leaders’ abilities to lead people and lead learning. This development increases knowledge in key leadership areas, allows for individualized leadership development planning, and broadens perspectives regarding educational leadership.
3. Support Conditions for Leadership -- Create systemic support conditions for division leadership in order to strengthen the abilities of superintendents and principals to improve student learning. LEAD continues to focus professional development on reflective leadership that assesses self, influences and focuses others on student achievement, and leads system thinking.
