New Leaders for New Schools
Activities: More Details
New Leaders Leadership Coaches play an essential role in helping ensure that our principals receive the training and support they need to be successful. Leadership Coaches, who make up more than 25 percent of New Leaders staff, are retired successful urban school leaders who have a demonstrated record of improving student outcomes. Leadership Coaches work with New Leaders during their residency year and provide two years of on-the-job support once the residency has been completed.
For Residents, Leadership Coaches provide direct coaching, support, and instruction to ensure that they have the skills to lead schools that deliver high levels of academic achievement for every child. The Leadership Coaches visit the Resident and mentor principal at the Residency site, where they help structure the Resident’s working relationship and leadership responsibilities with the mentor principal. Additionally, they help the Residents integrate the theory of the coursework with the day-to-day leadership challenges encountered at the Residency site, lead weekly Resident meetings, and conduct individual coaching sessions.
After the Residency year, Leadership Coaches interact regularly with New Leaders principals and assistant principals. They routinely observe New Leaders schools and meet with New Leaders to give feedback, offer advice, and provide general support and resources.
