New Leaders for New Schools
Obstacles
New Leaders for New Schools prepares its principals to be leaders of change. Our principals are meant to transform the principalship and the schools they lead to ensure that all children are achieving. While the districts we partner with and the schools we work in all aspire toward the same goal—high achievement for every student—there is often resistance to change and new leadership. Schools and districts have become entrenched in a culture of failure and principals are expected only to maintain the status quo. New Leaders for New Schools is determined to create change and improvement, and over time we have learned to carefully build our partnerships with districts; we want to ensure that the necessary structures are in place to ensure that our principals, their students, and, with time, the whole district can be successful.
It is critical that we find the best possible candidates for our program; New Leaders principals must be outstanding leaders if they are to change schools and by example, whole districts. While our applications grow each year, we must remain committed to selecting only those applicants who meet our criteria -- in fact, our selectivity rate is close to 6%. As a result, each year we face greater challenges of increasing not only the overall number of applicants we receive but finding an ever-growing number of qualified applicants.
