Strategies for Student Success


All three strands (prospective principals, beginning principals, and experienced principals) are focused on impacting student learning through effective training and support of school leaders.

In Strand I, prospective principals identify a Program in their school by responding to the following question, “What is something remarkable that could be accomplished in one year and would have a significant impact on student learning?” They are then given a broad range of leadership experiences and support to further develop their skills and impact achievement. They receive guidance, feedback, and support from their mentoring principals.

In Strand II, beginning principals are supported in “hitting the ground running” through analysis of student achievement data, efficient and effective strategies of diagnosing student, staff, and community needs, and demonstrating effective leadership through focused, high-impact initiatives.

In Strand III, experienced principals participate in structured reflection through a series of interviews which culminate in a case study reflecting “a year in the life of a principal”. Through this process, principals reflect deeply on their school: strengths, needs, community expectations, vision, goals, achievement data, program initiatives, and key leadership decisions. Principals use this reflective practice to develop awareness of what is working, what isn’t, the “whys”, and what’s next.
