Principals Excellence Program | University of Kentucky and Pike County Public Schools
Program Evaluation
Quantitative evaluation of program impact on P-12 student achievement was not required by the US Department of Education when the UK-Pike County proposal was submitted in July 2001. PEP served as a catalyst for achieving two specific district objectives: (a) transform the principalship from a narrow emphasis on school management into an expanded model of leadership that assures student learning, and (b) prepare well-trained principal candidates for projected openings in the district.
During the two years of PEP implementation, Pike County continued to provide ongoing leadership development for all principals through monthly leadership academy meetings. District administrators also introduced a number of new initiatives for principals and teachers aimed at improving teaching and learning. Quantitative evaluation of principals and their efforts toward continuous improvement of P-12 student learning is the responsibility of Pike County. Evaluation of PEP as an advanced leadership development program relies on qualitative and attitudinal data provided by key stakeholders.
