School Leadership Executive Institute (SLEI) | South Carolina Department of Education

Program Goals

The ultimate goal of SLEI's efforts is to improve student and school achievement. Program goals in SLEI that help us reach that overarching goal include providing an open and honest process for self analysis and self reflection that will challenge participants to reflect carefully about their beliefs and the values that guide and inform their leadership and a rigorous curriculum to address “real-world” challenges that arise in schools and districts.

The program also assists participants in learning how to acquire, evaluate, and utilize multiple forms of information to approach problems creatively; developing strategies to include others in leadership efforts throughout their school; learning how to communicate effectively with each of their school constituencies; aligning school programs with local, state, and federal policies; and using multiple sources of evaluation.

Finally, SLEI models the precept that critical scrutiny is to be welcomed rather than avoided and develops strong networks of educators throughout South Carolina that share successes and failures for the benefit of all students.
