School Leadership Executive Institute (SLEI) | South Carolina Department of Education
History
Believing that the key to excellent public schools lies in effective school leaders, the 1998 South Carolina General Assembly, through the Education Accountability Act, laid the foundation for the (Progress Energy) School Leadership Executive Institute, to "provide training, modeling, and coaching on effective instructional leadership as it pertains to instructional leadership and school-based improvement..." The program is to "meet national standards for professional development and focus on the improvement of teaching and learning." To accomplish this mandate, the S.C. Department of Eduaction designed a rigorous, high quality residential program to enhance the commitment and expand the knowledge of South Carolina's public school leaders, by focusing on issues common to all of South Carolina's schools. In order to significantly expand the knowledge and research base for this program, the Center for Creative Leadership was contracted as a partner. The program was established in 2000 and was placed under the Office of Professinal Development which has since been renamed the Office of School Leadership.
