UMKC Principals Institute | University of Missouri - Kansas City
Obstacles
Currently funding is a concern. Program expansion --including additional personnel and technology -- would require more dollars. Other challenges include finding the time to work with individuals so that it does not take them away from their position in a significant way; identifying the right participants that will definitely have a future principal role in the districts; and partnering with the districts.
To assist with funding concerns the UMKC Principals Institute has submitted a Department of Education grant that is requesting 3 years of funding for the purpose of refining and expanding the simulation process. An integral part of the proposal is the study of simulations on principal leadership and how it impacts student achievement in schools where principals have had this experience. This proposal would dramatically increase the number of individuals working full- and part-time with the Principals Institute. In addition the grant would provide funds for a well-designed quantitative study of simulations as a teaching tool and their ultimate impact on student learning. Decisions on whether funding will be awarded will be made in December 2005.
