Board-Superintendent Relations: Who is Responsible for What? | Dr. Jeremiah Floyd

Program Description

The program provides a detailed examination of the components and principles of successful governance and administrative models with special emphasis on assisting parents and the community in general to better understand the policy-setting, policy-implementation process in regards to instructional and administration issues. In addition, the program helps all involved to better communicate about school issues such as curricula, test scores, student achievement, and state and federal requirements under the No Child Left Behind Law.

Virginia Standard(s) Addressed

Governance and administrative leadership: Ensuring a clear vision is extant regarding roles and responsibilities for the governance and administration of the school division is essential for effective policy-making, policy implementation to take place.

Broad-based community communications and effective relations: The School Board and the Administration promote good public communications about policies and procedures throughout the community, with the staff, parents, and students when written policies and procedures are in place and widely advertised.

Supporting constituents and building coalitions to ensure effectiveness: School Board and Administrative Leaders must work collaboratively to minimize misunderstandings about how the school division functions. This will strengthen community outreach, serve to inform everyone about the needs of the school division and support ongoing efforts to deliver quality education to all students in a diverse student population.
