Mentor Coaching Workshops | Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals (VASSP)

Program Description

This two-day workshop provides school administrators with skills and resources to be a mentor and coach to an inexperienced principal or to an administrative team in a school that is not fully accredited or has not made AYP. An additional third day may be offered for participants wanting to be mentor - coach trainers.

Program Goals and Objectives

By the end of this program, participants will learn how to:

· demonstrate knowledge of mentoring and coaching skills necessary to assist other administrators in bringing about change.

· identify resources necessary to assist in the mentoring and coaching process.

· apply skills in the area of supervision of instruction to assist other administrators in implementing educational programs that meet the needs of diverse populations.

Program Format

Large group presentations, reflective dialogue, and team building with identified presenters associated with VASSP, NASSP, and the Virginia Department of Education.

Target Audience

Successful middle and high school administrators who have the potential to serve as mentors and coaches.

Self-Selection and/or Identification Through School Division

School divisions select participants. Participants may self-select but must meet identified selection criteria.

Duration of Program

Two-day conference with large-group sessions focusing on identified topics.

Outcomes Measured

Outcomes are measured by improvement of those individuals who are mentored and coached and their schools where they work.

Program Evaluation

Each participant completes a conference evaluation form providing feedback to VASSP for use in future conferences.
