Program Goals and Objectives
By the end of this program, participants will learn the parts of an eight-step strategic plan and apply it to crafting a school improvement plan, will learn how to facilitate stakeholders in writing a mission statement and shared values/goals, and will learn how to gather information and data to use in a school improvement plan. The end result will be that participants will gain skills to facilitate collaborative decision-making and consensus-building in strategic planning and facilitating school improvement plans.
Program Format
The program will begin with an overview of strategic planning and how it can apply to school improvement plans. The provider will present an eight-step strategic planning process as it applies to school improvement. Scenarios and case studies of collaborative decision-making and consensus building will follow the strategic planning activities. The provider will give the participants information and demographics on Metro Schools, a mythical school system. Based on the information from Metro Schools, the provider will form groups for participants to craft a school mission statement and goals/values. Participants will bring their completed statements and goals/values to all stakeholders present and a common mission and goals/value statements will be written using consensus-building techniques. Next, an internal and external "scan" will be conducted and then a framework for a school improvement plan will be written using consensus-building and collaborative decision-making techniques.
