Program Description
This program provides skills on improving school safety and addressing gang activity and bullying. National, state, and local current research and best practices will be explored. Participants will focus on general and specific ways to address school safety. In addition, proactive methods for addressing school gangs and bullying in the school environment will be a major focus.

Program Goals and Objectives
By the end of this program, participants will learn about national, state, and local school safety programs. Participants will learn ways to identify and proactively address gangs and bullying situations. Current school law in Virginia and across the nation will be emphasized.
Program Format
This program will open with a presentation and discussion of national, state, and local school safety research. Participants will identify local needs with regard to school safety, school gangs, and bullies. Working in groups, participants will develop a plan to proactively address school safety issues. Group plans will be shared with all participants and a session-wide plan will be created.

School-based and central office administrators and lead teachers.

Duration of Program
- One full day of 6-8 hours or two half-days of 3-4 hours each
- Your own private session for collaboration, consensus-building, and strategic planning
Outcomes Measured
Number and quality of components of a school safety plan.
